Actually Comcast, It's time to upgrade YOUR website

This is the annoying page I get redirected to whenever I use my 1 week old version of Google Chrome to access Comcasts arrogant website.

Another example of bad website design and a total failure to update systems for the biggest browser launch of the last few years.

“Failure” is actually using this stuff at all. Some sites even don’t have “go anyway”…

Actually it’s all about pushing the version of IE 7 that comes w/ the Comcast Toolbar and changes the default search to use Comcast (a branded Google, where Comcast profits from AdSense for Search). Plus, any change to Comcast.net has to go through about a billion (might be up to 2 billion now) people and “change requests”. You’ll probably be able to view Comcast.net using Chrome, without that warning, in the year 2011.

It’s the same when you try to access Hotmail – although I’d be surprised if Microsoft ever let Chrome users onto their site with open arms.

@Shark SEO, let Hotmail block chrome, just another good reason to use hotmail.

Biggest browser launch? That didn’t look like Firefox…

Maybe you shouldn’t be using comcast? Get a new provider. Even if you get less bandwidth than what comcast offers, its still making sure that your money doesn’t go into their hands so they can’t spend it on useful things like updating their website.

I tried to look up nekkid negros girls but Comcast wouldn’t let me.

Hmmmm, I know what you’re problem is; YOU’RE ON COMCAST.

    I’m not surprised. Comcast sucks.

Ah, the old browser-sniffing instead of feature-sniffing web development strategy. Where do these web designers get their information from? Did they actually think the browser world would be IE and some Mozilla variant, forever?

If you want to streamline the bookmarks toolbar, you can edit the name of a bookmark and leave it blank and it will only show the favicon. Handy when you have only one bookmark of site on the toolbar.

  • matthew

Oh give them a break. The browser has only been out for a week and you probably haven’t even notified them of this.

Actually, the biggest browser launch of the last few years was Firefox 3. After that, maybe Opera 8. Chrome is a blip, like every other half-baked non-core project Google has tried over the past half decade.

Just use User Agent Swi— oh right, no plugins…

@Anonymous – I live in the UK, how could I be on Comcast?

The difference between some idiot that thinks they are a web designer and an actual web designer was put quite nicely by Peter Marrek (above). The worst thing someone can do when designing websites is disallow people from viewing the site in different browsers. This would be akin to not allowing people with red shirts into a butcher shop because people with red shirts may be vegetarians. It is short-sighted, stupid, cuts ad revenue, and somewhat discriminatory.

A better thing could have been a small note/banner across the top of the page that says something like “we haven’t tested this site with your browser, so you may experience problems viewing our site”. Or, just fixing the website to detect features as opposed to attempt to detect browsers.

I wonder how many people would see such a thing and immediately close that browser tab/window or change the address?

Actually Comcast in this case is not at fault. Chrome as some bugs when it comes to Javascripts. I work myself for a wireless brandband manufacturer. Most of out units have a web interface for setup. Well, it works with all browsers BUT chrome… So google people… GET BACK TO WORK!!!

I use Comcast moved to Google Crome and the only problem I see is that
    1. Redirects to the download page. Eeverything else works ok.
    2. Google Chrome works faster then IE7 or any of the browser’s they list in thier list.
    3. Lets see what happens I sent comcast a request for a work around for the redirect.
Lets see if they respond with an answer.

Untill then I will just click go ahead and browse with out update.

Hey maybe Google will come out with a fix if enough comcast customers complain.

Hey now I think my brain just kicked in must be the coffee 12 cup pot made with 2 cups expresso grounds.

I’m going to ask Google for a work around see what they say.

No I got it I will get some 5th grade kid to come up with a work around then ask both of them to play are you smarter then a 5th grader. And add a twist. If they are they get the money. If they are not they have to put the same amout in a trust fund for the kid. Now I think the WORLD WOULD WATCH THAT SHOW.

    Comcast still sucks.
