I've worked with some big brands and the best ideas are ones that have nothing to do with SEO at all, just publicity stunts that get people talking which then converts to links in blogs ect, in effect SEO is becoming PR

It took a considerable amount of time, and continues too for SEO Researchers out there to understand every little aspect of Google's algorithm and how this can be implemented within a website. Here, I think is the exact same case, although this brand update may be quite concerning this second, I'm sure the code will be cracked as it were.

Either way, very nice update, its good to see Google is ever developing their algorithms to provide a better and fairer user experience.

I'm loving these posts Patrick, many thanks.

As the world of SEO for Google finally meets the real world of PR & Marketing, I can't help but wonder what people would be making if Yahoo or Microsoft had changed their big product results to look like the high street. I suspect we'd be saying they had got it wrong.

While it's amazing for the agencies at the moment, and I'm sure their retainers are swelling nicely, it's going to be very painful when the brands realise that they just don't need an SEM agency to rank for the big phrases.

I wonder if they will roll it out over the mid-tail? Surely that risks changing the flavour of their Search Engine completely?

As the flux continues in the UK Serps, does anyone know if it's stopped moving in the US from the feb update or are we looking at a permanently moving set of results based on external factors such as search query volume?

SEO is going to get very expensive if that's the case. Much like the massive UK comparison engines see big drops when they pause their TV ad budgets, I can imagine SEO when everyone is fighting for the next big buzz and budgets getting bigger and bigger.
