SEO Visibility of Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon & Twitter

As the remaining assets of digg.com are sold for just $500k I thought it would be interesting to have a look at how the visibility of a few social sites stacks up.

Remember that Digg never managed to setup a coherent SEO strategy and the only way they could stop what they deemed as “spam” was to apply an invisible auto-bury penalty that stopped sites ever reaching the front page.

When Digg started a lot of people were able to get sites on the front page pretty much daily (are we now allowed to talk publicly about Digg Club?) but then Digg became wise to social media marketing and started banning sites and users for voting their own stories too much.

The charts below show how Digg stacks up against Twitter who doesn’t really have the best SEO strategy. Twitter mainly does well due to brand pages but they could do so much more if the actual tweets ranked better.
