Project Overview

Interflora is the world’s largest and most popular flower delivery network. Having worked together successfully for several years, Interflora appointed Branded3 to design and develop a new web-based system to replace their cumbersome and expensive directory of internationally available products.

The Solution

Firstly, as usability for the system was paramount, careful consideration was given to user requirements needed for such an application. Through in-depth research into current Interflora systems and protocols we designed a series of user journey diagrams in close consultation with Interflora. This was to ensure that the different types of users could achieve their goals efficiently.

We then progressed to producing wireframe prototypes of the user interface. These wireframes focused on underwriting the established user journeys and functionality requirements.

The aesthetics and general styling were then designed to complement the wireframe designs. Again, careful thought was given to ensure that the look and feel of the application is on brand, clear and easy to use.

The application was developed using the ASP.NET MVC on the Microsoft .NET Framework, chosen for its robustness, speed and reliability. It runs on a load balanced web and SQL environment to ensure maximum possible uptime. The system also exploits Adobe InDesign Server, allowing users to create their own tailored printable documents. Both the site and the document creation support multi-language and multi-currency, allowing Interflora to adapt content for their global and multi-cultural clients, all from a single management interface.

The Results

With the International Delivery Directory online, Interflora will annually save a significant sum as they do not have to print large directories and distribute them around the world. Furthermore, as a result of our diligent and methodical approach to a project of this scale, we delivered the whole system ahead of schedule despite it being on a tight timeline.
