Mahalo just started a spamming war

Human powered search engine Mahalo is running a contest amongst its editors to see which can refer the most new Mahalo Follow toolbar users.
Prizes include a 20-inch 2.0GHz iMac, iPhone and iPods.

The problem is that everybody will probably spam their referral link all over the web.

In fact, its started already with Scottr submitting to Digg. Lets hope Scott learns a bit more about marketing before his final exams.

No spamming so far, and we say in the rules if you do ANY kind of spamming you get kicked out.

So, I don’t think we will have a problem.

“The problem is that everybody will probably spam their referral link all over the web.”

That could be said for any contest or affiliate program…

Altough you have figured it out as a spmming war but search engines cannot trace it. It’s really nice way to get some backlinks, I would be looking to have something similar for myself.

One thing is for sure that it will increase the awareness and will narrow down the spammers.
