Compete has released some interesting stats today confirming that an average of 28 percent of searches on MSN and Yahoo are navigational. As you might expect Google users are more tech savvy and the percentage there is around 14.

Interestingly even slashdot users need to use Google to search for “slashdot.org”.

Another interesting bit of the article is that myspace and myspace.com are two of the biggest referring search terms to Facebook.

Navigational searches
Compete seems to think that navigational searches are without value but the PPC ads shown on Yahoo and MSN when you search for Myspace tell another story. Google shows PPC ads for navigational queries all the time and makes a fortune because of it.
