The Black Friday phenomenon has well and truly made its way over to our shores and unsurprisingly, masses and masses of frantic shoppers are now trawling the web and queuing outside supermarkets in an attempt to get their hands on a bargain.
But just how much are us Brits actually spending on Black Friday? We at Branded3 decided to find out by creating an online tool that tracks the amount being spent across the country throughout (Black) Friday the 28th.
And what we’ve racked up so far is pretty astonishing. Before 10am, committed UK shoppers had already parted with over £200 million, snapping up everything from wide-screen TVs to winter coats and Xbox games. BEFORE 10am.
Last week, a report by Visa Europe estimated that British consumers would spend more than £1 million every three minutes, or £6000 every second, resulting in a 22% increase in online transactions when compared to 2013.
That being said, it’s no wonder that almost every retailer in the country is slashing its prices and offering dirt-cheap deals to get a piece of the action. Last year, Amazon received 4 million Black Friday orders and it is already prepared to beat that figure today by offering “lightning deals” that launch every 10 minutes until stock is sold out. Meanwhile, supermarket giants ASDA and Tesco have been forced to call in the police for crowd control at their various stores this morning.
We will be keeping an eye on the UK spend all day via the Branded3 online tracker and hotly anticipating that final figure when the clock strikes 12 tonight!
