Last week, brands were all about Valentine’s Day, but this week has been a real mix. Kanye has launched his new Yeezy collection, KFC ran out of chicken, and Donald Trump got booted out of America (kind of). Here’s our top five PR campaigns of the week …
Kanye debuts new Yeezy collection on social media
Instead of doing a show at this year’s New York Fashion Week, Kanye launched his new collection using social media – and social superstar Kim Kardashian.
Back in December, Kim released a range of pictures of herself on Instagram wearing items from the new collection. Kim and Kanye then called upon some of social media’s biggest influencers to replicate those same images – including Paris Hilton, Sami Miro, and Jordyn Woods. Together, they all have a combined following of 121.3 million on Instagram, so Kanye certainly knew his new collection would be seen by many.
But he didn’t stop there. He also invaded Times Square this week, hosting the images and Instagram posts on the huge billboards that overlook the New York hotspot.
This different approach got everyone talking and watching as new celebrities take on the challenge to recreate Kim’s pictures.
Donald Trump gets booted out of America – creative asset
Donald Trump is arguably one of the most hated men in America right now – or at least the most divisive. To give people a place to direct their outrage over his latest antics, one brand has created an interactive asset that allows users to virtually boot Trump out of the White House – and America.

The campaign is by Etias and launched this week, so we’ll be keeping an eye on the links and coverage it gets.
KFC runs out of chicken, closes many stores and brands react
It’s been a bad week for the fast food chain KFC, as they ran out of chicken (blame DHL) and had to close some of its restaurants. Of course, social media went mad with many posting about their heartbreak of losing out on chicken for their lunch. But this was a great opportunity for competitor brands to jump on the news and have a bit of fun.
Quorn saw it as a perfect opportunity and sent them this…

BrewDog announces “doghouse” hotel with beer taps in every room
Ever been in the “dog house” and had to sleep on the sofa? Well, BrewDog have announced a “dog house” hotel right next to their brewery headquarters. The hotel will be opening in early 2019, where beer taps will be available in every one of the 26 rooms, as well as a built-in shower beer fridge.
James Watt, BrewDog co-founder, said: “The DogHouse is our gift to passionate craft beer fans making the pilgrimage to our brewery in Aberdeenshire. The idea of opening a beer hotel has always been high on our agenda, and now we are finally able to realise that dream, right here at our HQ. This will be the ultimate destination for craft beer fans seeking hops with their holidays. This is a beer Nirvana.”
Cadbury shakes the world of confectionery by claiming Creme Egg is pronounced ‘crem’
Have you ever even considered that we could be pronouncing Cadbury’s Creme Egg wrong? No, me neither. But one chocolate fan Shawna Leigh did and went to Twitter asking them to clarify once and for all.
And this is how they responded …
Yes. This news has shocked the world. Enough to make headlines and become a PR campaign in itself.
