Fri-Yay is back already, and over the last week we’ve seen a variety of innovative campaigns launch in the world of PR. Without further ado, here are a few of our favourites!

Plusnet – Yorkshire EMOJI

Monday 1st August is Yorkshire Day, and Plusnet have come up with a great campaign to celebrate the county’s heritage.

The Sheffield based broadband company have created five Yorkshire-inspired emojis that they want the public to get behind to make one of them the official emoji for Yorkshire!

The five options are:

  • A Yorkshire pudding
  • A Yorkshire Terrier
  • A pot of tea fitted with a tea cosy
  • A classic flat cap
  • A white rose

To VOTE, simply ‘like’ your favourite  from the image gallery on Plusnet’s Facebook page, and the winning emoji will be announced on Monday 1st August.

Meet Graham, the new road safety ambassador

Graham, who was created by Melbourne sculptor Patricia Piccinini, is part of the Victorian Government’s new road safety campaign to emphasise how vulnerable our bodies really are.

The human body can only cope with certain amounts of force in a car accident – in fact, the impact forces of just 30km/hr are enough to be fatal.

But what if the human body were to be modified to withstand a high-speed crash? Piccinini drew from the knowledge of trauma surgeon Christian Kenfield and road safety engineer David Logan to build a body that could do just that.

A huge chest and extra nipples (meant to mimic air bags and protect his rib cage) are just two examples of some of the warped elements that Graham has on his body. Discover more about the other features here.

Although our bodies will never look like Graham’s, there’s a safety system in place that can help protect us in much the same way. 

Persil’s giant mud volcano

A giant mud volcano was revealed in London to launch laundry brand Persil’s Wild Explorers app. The app is part of their ‘Dirt Is Good’ campaign – an ongoing commitment from Persil to encourage more children to get outside and enjoy adventurous play.

To promote the app launch, Persil has created a 7ft tall by 10ft wide 3-tonne mud volcano, which erupts with ‘molten-lava’. It took a team of eight professionals more than 4,000 hours to build.

Launched in partnership with The Wild Network, the Persil Wild Explorers app is free to download and provides more than 100 activities for families to enjoy outside during the summer holidays.

The “play-inspiration” includes activities such as making a mud volcano, blowing a grass trumpet and creating a squirrel adventure course.

Samsung’s ‘School of Rio’

 Jack Whitehall goes back to school in Samsung’s Rio 2016 Summer Olympics campaign.

Samsung has revealed its School of Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games campaign in the UK. The campaign, is designed to enhance the nation’s knowledge and enjoyment of Olympic and Paralympic events, with help from comedian Jack Whitehall.

Jack will spend the summer being schooled by sporting heroes including cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins, rowing gold medallist Helen Glover and Paralympian champion swimmer Ellie Simmonds.

Scripted in partnership with Jack, the campaign content is themed around durability, elegance and stamina; key features of the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones.

Work the World – Around the world in 42 hand gestures

 Work the World have created an informative (and highly useful) guide demonstrating 42 hand gestures that are common in 14 countries.

This is sure to be of great help to people who travel and find themselves experiencing a language barrier! It also clarifies some travel etiquette, clearing up what otherwise innocent hand gestures are considered offensive elsewhere in the world!
